A Newbie Guide On Humans

When game start both sides are on stage 1. That means you see only dretches. So, in those 1-2 minutes humans should kill so many dretches they can, without dieng. Beware though, your head is unprotected, that means 1 headbite and you lost 96 hp. So if you get hit - even by teammates, if you got less then 96 hp left, use your medkit or go back to medistation and heal. Die as infrequently as possible. Some hints. Run, not walk(that x in your keyboard puts run mode on, you dont have to hold it). A good way is, run back while shooting dretches, those small aliens cant keep with you if they move from wall to wall, so they must be in stright line to you to get closer, that means you have better chanes to hit them with your guns. Another thing, if dretch is close to you, run foward. Yes, you probably get hit but mostly you dont get hit to your head. Try to run foward while dretch jumps misses. While dretch turns around, you should get so much ahead, that you can reload you gun and shoot again. If you got energy, use jump to minimize hp loss. If you approach to corner, first run to it and then just before corner run back. Just to see if there is hiding dretches. If you move around map, keep middle on the corridors. dretches on walls have better chances to make headbite. If you get near to alien base, do not try to rush to overmind or eggs. Acid tubes slow you down and you probaly got killed before you do any serious damage. Better empty you gun into nearest tube (one clip destroys it) and it gives some money to you. Beware thoug - make backside running if you see a dretch. Try not to die, because without a dragoon, humans have better weapons. At some point it happens, you see humans got raped by a goon. At that point you and your team should start seriously rebuild base.

There are basicly 2 ways to set up base. Offensive and Defensive. Both have good and bad sides. First offensive ways. In any way, build atelast 1, better 2 turrets near react and telenodes. 1 goon can quickly destroy both nodes and arm when there is no turrets and humans will loose.

To your information. Offensive way is to build base so, that its hard to reach to your main buildings, defensive is to build so that there is hard to destroy any building. That means, offensive buildings kill more aliens then defensive buildings, but they need constant repairs.

In offensive way, build next turret near tunnel where is only 1 turret at start. If you counter dretch, stay near turret and stop dretch to running around turret if he does so. Those small aliens can pretty easyliy kill 1 single turret at open space. I have seen 2 effective setups with 2 turrets at tunnel. First one is so, build 1 turret far corner. After that build another one diagonal to other corner so that it covers your first builded turret and after that decone first turret what whose there. So ther will be 2 turrets on each wall and humans can freely run trough it. in this setup, if dretch puts nose out, it will be ded in notime and goon can kill 1 turret, but after that he lost most of his life. Another way is put turrets so that they can shot downside too. Bad thing is, they block and dretches may kill those from under. If you are brave, you can even make 3 turrets near tunnel. Its still passable but hard to destroy with goon.

In downside you can try to make turrets at opening to middle bunker. ITs hard to mantain, but good thing is, dretches have hard time to use walls. Plus goon has fever places to run. Bad thing is, react is more or less defendless if you try to make so. If you got humans who can defend and kill suicide goons, then its not a problem.

On later stages, you can make outpost(repeater+medi) in tunnel or in bunker, but mostly, in this small map is that pretty useless. If you got to fight tyrants, then repeaters are a thing to use, but only if you are attaking position else you cant get out of base to build one. Build so many repeaters you can near walls so, that humans can go trough it, but not tyrants. Basicly, if tyrants rush or slash, they get stopped with repeater who will be destroyed, but human will survive and if he has lucy or chaingun, more time to shoot that bastard. Remember, it takes time to blow up repeater even if its destroyed and in that time, tyrant must go around it while chaingunner just shoot and shoot while that little destroyed repeater blocks. It really works. Dead tyrant is more worth to you then destroyed repeater.

Well, there is defensive way too. Mostly they make circle of turrets while arm is behind turrets near wall and medi close to arm. Teslas are useless, not because they do less damage, because you cant jump over it. In that small base, it is important. If you cant shoot opponents and cant get out, you will lose. Beware though, if you make arr near wall to nearest to alien base, tyrants can rush around turrets and kill easily you arm. Good side is, you can walk into arm and save energy. Arm in another wall is snipeable, so if you can, make medi in that direction where goon will snipe arm. Wounded human in medi or even dead human is better then no armory at all. Bad thing is, you must jump over turrets to go fight, but its more defensive then the other wall.

There is a EXTREM camp set. Arm is almost unsnipeable and even tyrs cant reach your arm. But there are 2 donwsides of it. First, you must move react. On default map, decone react and build just between two telenodes new one. If you succeed, build first some turrets around react to secure the base. Then put arm in corner where react whose, and build so that ppl can go around react, after that there is enough space to make medi near your new arm. To complete your base, build turrets in circle and base is set. If you do so, arm is almost unsnipeable - react will block it and while react has more def, you can repair it. There is way to snipe it from downside, but its hard, first, goon will snipe blindly and second, if there is human in medi, it most probably will block the sniping. I said there is a second downside, well, goons can jump over react and can destroy arm, react blocks turrets to secure arm. If humans defend like they should, then suicide goon will killed before he does big damage. But if you got 6 ppl who just sit in turrets, shoot moving by tyrants and dont see or hear how goon will destroy arm and even after that react(yes, it happens me once) then, i think even best base setup wont help when you got such a newbies in your team. To make things clear, if i make this setup, arm is often last thing what will be destroyed if humans loose. It happens several times where humans are at s1 and aliens at s3, and humans will win at the end with this setup. Extrem campers, but what you can do at s1 to tyrants.

One thing more, mostly its better to spare 2-3 turrets in the corner just outside the main base. There are 2 purposes of those turrets, block tyrants and kill dretches. First one, if you are out of supplies and hp is too low, and a tyrant is after you, it really helps to get behind a obstacle while tyrant will stay behind it. It saves alot lives. Second and more useful thing is drethces. They kill dretches before they can kill any unarmed humans so they cant get evos. It may sound weird, but 3 turrets there make less bigger aliens to appear. If they stay there on long time ofcorse. Newbies want to stay in those ramps. Its worst place to be. You may see far, but if you must run, you cant run anywhere. So never ever stay there. I call it dretch street, because mostly they kill humans in that region.

Enough for building, lets say something about gameplay again. So, where are at stage 1 and aliens are too at stage 1, but they gon one or some goons. An that stage, humans should make teams. If you got no arm and just your basic rifle, stay in base and shoot dretches what you see. If you must go to action, look who has maked most kills, if he runs to action, run after it, but keep some distance. If you both encouter goons, first one tbuddy dies, just move around and empty your gun, you probably die too, but make every bullet worth of it. Goons will regain health slowly, so it is useful just to harm those beast. Goonfighing is art of themselves. Mostly you should use armor and shotgun to kill a goon. Why, because shotgun does good damage and its cheap, what means if you die, aliens get only 1 evo. If you are second hand soldier and shoot from distance, use lasgun, what is second most useful gun at s1. Its hell of a dretch killer. If you stay outside bunker near alien side, you can make alot kills whith those 200 bullets. Its not very effective to goon, but if you can survive long enough, most of goons health is gone. Well, you can use chaingun too, but its too risky, too much money for that thing while you can be killed with 1 goon hit. And if you die, 2 evos to alien side. But it can be very effective to running goons, so one strategy is, stay in base, wait until goons come by, let teammates and turrets hit a little, and then press x and run after running goon. Do not go very far though.

So if teammates are not completely newbies, you sould get to stage 2. You will get helmet, what protects you from 1 hit death and give hints about surroundings. If you dont got helm and armor, dont ever try to move out from your base, if you must follow someone who got lot kills. Mostly, aliens are at s2 at this time, so try to keep it so, dont die at all costs. If you see and hear no goons, you can make "easy money" with flamethrower now. Get full arm and flamethrower and press x button to run, if you see a dretch, shoot on your feets and run to it. you will get some hits from flamethrower, but it will grill dretches before they do any damage to you. Mostly, run a little foward and then walk or run backward near base, dont try to take town any alien structures, you will kill yourself with your weapon. Imagine you clean surrounding with dretches, if u see goon, dont try to fight it it, just run back while shooting it and stay alive. Trying to kill goon mostly ends killing yourself, dont do it. If you want to kill goons, use you pulse weapons. Include battery, that allows you miss more per clip. Go with a teammate, just look who got most kills and wait until he goes out from base and follow him. He mostly knows weakspots. It you try to destroy alien base, make one thign after another. Kill aliens, then if you got cler shot to a egg, destroy it, after that look for trappers and kill those, after that kill acid tubes who block your path to eggs, and after that again eggs. Overmind is last thing to destroy. Why so, if you succed to make path clear to Overmind and eggs and die there, you can try to make painsaw rush. Equip with armor, helmet, grenade and painsaw. Use your x key, if you are lucky, you sould get near om, drop grenade near alien and saw that big thing while constantly moving around it. With any luck, overmind will be dead while grenade blows and grenade will kill you and some aliens around you. No kill to alien and overmind is down. Well, make sure there is no trappers, painsawers are easy food to aliens if they are trapped.

If aliens get stage 3 before humans, then there is again camping time. Rules are same, if you got no armor, stay in base until you got one. You should shot advanced goons, not tyrants. Those goons snipe and can quicly destroy any defense. Use chaingun, it maybe tricky at first, but its very effective against bigger aliens. Do not solo, again, DO NOT SOLO. If you see someone is going to chaingun a big alien, follow him with your gun. It really helps alot. That means if you got armor and helmet. Trey to kill advanced goons, they are easyer then they look and mostly they run avay from you.

If your team is at stage 3, then its battlesuit time. If opponent is at stage 1-2, then it will be lot easyer. You can actually special hunt bigger aliens with chaingun. Its extrem effective, but you will notice, you must often go to armory and replenish you ammo. Basicly, kill 1-2 bigger aliens and go to base, repeat. Chainguns are not best for alien structures, but if you got someone with you eho has too chaingun, you can take out a tube, better egge. mostly its not useful to waste ammo on those things. If you must, then egg and only egg. Lucifer cannon is a funny thing. Its like most useful thing to destrou buildings. Remember, 1 blow to kill trapper, 1 big blow or 2 smaller one to kill tube. 2 ones to kill a egg. Remember the egg thing. You must shot TWICE at it, to be sure you got enough ammo for it. You can actually take out tyrant with 2 lucy hit, but those must be maxed out. Mostly you need 3-4 hits. and tyrant can make in that time 5 hits atelast. If you got battlesuit on you, you will survive 2-3 hits, next one will be deadly. Mostly, count you hits, after 2 hits, use your medi. If you run into alien base, dont try to kill those small aliens, just run and before you arrive to base just soot 1 blow on ground to clear it. It saves ammo what you can use alien structures. Lucifer cannnon is a solo weapon. If you use with your teammates, it often ends so that you shoot eachother do death. Chaingunners are more effective for teams. A rule to tyrants, you need atleast 2 chaingunners to kill one, 3 to survive. While dodging, try to switch places with your teammates. if you both get 3 hits, you kill tyrant and you both survive. Beware though, tyrants rush+slash can counts as 2 hits and are taken instatnly and third one can kill you. Loss in firepower means it takes longer to kill. Longer to kill means tyrant can make those 3 deadly hits.

A Strategy Guide

Aliens (general): Always attack the head's of humans. Use stealth whenever possible. Never be predictable in your movements (i.e. don't travel in a straight line). Humans are much more effective in groups so target loners and cull stragglers whenever possible. With regeneration you never need to return to your base so use hit and run tactics to stay alive. If you're outclassed wait until your defensive structures weaken humans first or use a booster to poison.

Versus Turrets: Turrets won't try to fire through each other or other objects, so position yourself where the least amount of turrets will hit you. Focus on one turret at a time and back off once it stops firing because it'll explode soon and deal splash damage to players and to other structures. If you have room to maneuver, strafe back and forth or all around a turret while slashing since they aim very slowly. You can do this on top of turrets as well. If all you need is to get past a turret front, you can sacrifice a dretch to draw their aim somewhere convenient so you'll have more time to get by with your next life.

Versus Human Bases: Remember, the object of the game is to destroy the enemy base and then wipe out the survivors, so only focus on individual humans when you're in need of frags, or waiting for teammates to stockpile frags. In smaller games it's often possible to sneak into an improperly defended base and do significant damage, even with low classes. Look for a path through the automated defenses to the reactor or armoury. If you can take out the reactor before any humans realize what's happening then all the other defenses will halt and it becomes trivial to clean up the rest of the base. Attacking a reactor from above makes it much more difficult for turrets to target you and you'll take less damage from the reactor itself. If the humans are relying heavily on tesla generators try to take out the defense computer to render them useless. Even just a few quick hits can be used to take out an armoury, and doing so can seriously hinder a human team. In larger games, taking down automated defense is usually a bigger help for your teammates.

Dretch: You're silent when moving so find a hiding spot and wait for a human to pass, then follow for a surprise attack. Stay on the ground and aim upward for safer headshots. The only structures you can damage are turrets and teslas, so if a human lays one down destroy them before they finish building, then kill the builder. Once spotted by a human use your wall walking to evade enemy fire until they have to reload, then go in for the kill. If you're outclassed, use poison or wait outside your base for humans to take damage from your defensive structures before attacking. Dretches actually have the highest movement speed in the game so unless one of the higher class's movement abilities would make getting to your destination faster it may be better to travel as a dretch and evolve when you get there. Dretches also have the fastest relative regeneration rate of all aliens besides the tyrant, so if you're damaged before evolving, wait until your health maxes out first.

Basilisk: Always focus on a single target. Use the grab to stick a human then jump on their head for a faster kill. The grab only works when actually aiming at a target. Be very careful of battlesuits and squads. Avoid turrets in groups of two or more. The grab will actually slow turret rotation speed so you don't need to strafe as much to kill single turrets. The gas is best used as a hit and run attack since it's fairly unreliable.

Marauder: Hit and run by jumping over humans and slashing at their heads. Never stand still. The slash can do more damage than the lightning, so only use the lightning to finish off near-dead targets. Avoiding chaining the lightning since the damage will be divided between all targets. Don't waste time attacking turrets when you can simply jump over them to reach vital structures.

Dragoon: Aim upward with a charged pounce to fly further. Only use the bite in close quarters when you can get a clean headshot. Use the pounce at all other times. The pounce doesn't do locational damage so you don't need to aim for heads, but do aim -- you can deal pounce damage without actually touching a human. Never bite mid-pounce, it will cancel the pounce damage. Always use the pounce for movement. You don't have to be on the ground to charge up the pounce, so press the button again immediately after releasing it. Use the barbs to snipe at enemy defense; target armouries first, then teles if they're vulnerable, then turrets. If the enemy is relying heavily on tesla generators take out the defense computer to cripple their base.

Tyrant: Your base movement is slow so don't go anywhere that's wide open or hard to maneuver in. Always use the trample to increase your speed. Kill or force a retreat on every human that could pursue you (remember to slash their heads). Retreat from pursuers only to regain health and set up an ambush. You can take out turrets easily and absorb fire from one or two simultaneously, so don't be afraid of them. Be careful of backpeddling or circle-strafing humans with powerful weapons (like the chaingun or lucifer cannon) or distant humans with accurate weapons (like the mass driver). Use the trample to damage teleporters and medistations, since you can hit them while moving and its difficult to slash them directly. If you're regrouping with teammates stand next to them to double their regeneration rate.

And finally in blades guide, if u dont have a clue how to make a bind.cfg from scratch u can have mine.

Step 1:
Download

Step 2:
Extract this to your desktop

Step 3:
Place it in your C:\Program Files\Tremulous\base.

Finally:
Open the console and type /exec epicbind.cfg

whatev, this is way to long for newbies, try to edit out the not-so-important parts, put it in laymans terms, and link to other guides when applicable. (ty for promoting mine)
