Linux on my Laptop?

I'm planning on running Linux on my crashed laptop. (fixeded it now)
Looking for any advice regarding Linux. I'm considering loading Ubuntu because I have some experience with it.
Maybe even Linux himself will descend from the 2C Forum, mingle with the mortals here, and give some godly advice. (PLZ?)

if ur a newbie ubuntu is good, and so is LM, im fond of ubuntu because of its nice support and terminal system ( urgh i had a heartattack when i started using other distros like slax, puppy or even kubuntu )

if u need help installing it, just ask, im sure we can get u up and running, us linux users are allways waiting to assimilate more ppl

I started off with Slackware.....yeah, life would have been easier if I had used Ubuntu first....

P.s. Usually it's gonna look ugly. Ubuntu sometimes requires 'pimping' out

Hi. What hardware does your computer have on it exactly?

- Graphics card
- CPU
- Wireless card

Also, I would like you to describe to me your exact partition setup; how big every hard-disk you have in your computer is and what partitions you have on each one of them, along with their sizes, the free space on them and a short description of their contents. This is to know where the data you want to keep currently resides so that you don't accidentally delete anything and so that we can arrange the best partition setup possible.

That's two different things. Having a separate data (/home) partition is VERY important regardless of whether you decide to use dual-boot or not.

Ok, I have Windows XP set up (all 12,000 updates...) and I have a data partition and a Linux partition (empty as of yet) and I think I am ready to begin the evil process of converting myself to a Linux user.

GASP?!? I'm gonna drop ur class so it doesnt ruin mah GPA...
