The Problem:The admin.dat is rather out of date. This is not a question, as you will notice the period after that statement.
I'm not asking for a second opinion on this statement, because I am fairly aware that it is already very correct.
I've been working on modding the server for a while now since doub left it, and since I've been doing that,
the admin levels have not really been representing the commands very well. This is partly my fault, and
partly because we have an extremely huge set of levels, as well as the fact that the clan, and tremulous,
have changed over the last few years. The hierarchy that was built up in our clan system worked great when
we had an active trem community, and more importantly, active leaders... but alas, trem is based on q3, and
thus slowly dying.
Suggested Solutions:While we cannot change trem's popularity, I suggest we streamline the server's admin.dat to represent a tighter
group, which is what we are becoming, but not necessarily limit it to that. We have a large amount of commands
that are useful that are hand written into the admin.dat, which are not used very often, and some that are simply
taking up space. To those of us who have medium to high admin levels, it can be a chore to look at the !help page
even if you know most of the commands by heart ( like me ). In light of this, below is a suggested grouping of what
to do with the current commands provided by the admin.dat.
Keep - keep these commands
Drop - into the can
Vyrus - a selection that I will work on streamlining into a format more like !cmd [#|Parameter|shitbrix]
- Spoiler:
- Code:
-
KEEP-

And now that you've gone over that and wondered how that is possibly going to help the LEVELS, I will continue with
the second suggestion.
I'd like to clean out the admin.dat and create new levels. Not just the levels though, what I
suggest is that we completely take out the ADMINS and BANS that are currently in there. You may ask
' why the heck
would you do that?! ' Recently we just hit the admin limit on ACRu again... I couldn't setlevel some nub who registered
on the forum... which basically comes down to us having
1024 players registered as admins!!! Do we have
that many active players on our server right now?! I wish... We don't have as many players anymore, so we can rather
quickly setlevel all admins and players back to their appropriate new levels when this change occurs. We also have several
hundred bans on ACRu - all permabans. While some of these are recent, most of the banned players are probably gone from
tremulous now as it's not exactly a high traffic game anymore. Another option instead of completely nuking ALL bans is to leave
about say the last 20~30 just in case...
Neither the commands or levels will be implemented immediately... I don't even have a projection on the new levels structuring
as it will take some thought to go over, but rest assured, this will only happen if you guys think its a good idea.
Comments and feedback are required - or I hunt you down and interrogate you.
